the joint challenge
Two internal tools for two nonprofits: replacing spreadsheets and pen-and-paper with dashboards their teams can actually use.
The shared framework
Each project started the same way: a nonprofit with a real operational problem that I needed to understand to its core daily functions
01:
Before we sketched anything, our team needed to understand the people living the problem daily, so we built empathy maps and user flows to see the process from the respective views of the admins and users. Most of these sessions included guided group thought exercises to pressure-test our assumptions as a team since most of us were experiencing our first design project.
For Find Your Anchor (FYA), I sought to understand the perspective of an isolated demographic experiencing mental health issues and wanting to find community.

For Patriots and Paws (PnP), I focused on the features and functionality that admin, donors, and drivers would want for their experience with the patriots and paws service. Each target audience had a unique need and pain point for the donation process.

02
Based on my solidified understanding of what functionality needed to be considered for the desired user, I took ownership of creating the user persona for a general user for FYA and a donation driver for PnP.
